Baker Mayfield ‘excited’ to get surgery done Wednesday

The first step in Baker Mayfield’s “bounce back” starts on Wednesday as the quarterback undergoes scheduled surgery on his shoulder. The Cleveland Browns have made it clear that they plan on Mayfield starting for them in 2022. Despite that, an NFC executive doesn’t believe that will be the case.

In order to reach his goals in 2022, Mayfield needs to get healthy after a 2021 season full of injury problems starting with his left shoulder. The torn labrum caused him to play with a harness on his arm for the majority of the season, missing two games and playing poorly most of the time.

On Tuesday, Mayfield took to Instagram to share his thoughts on the surgery:

Once the quarterback completes surgery, he is expected to have months of rehab before he is cleared to practice again. At that point, Cleveland could be through the NFL draft and the majority free agency.

For now, surgery is the first step for both Mayfield and the Browns. The rest will take time as the team and player look to move forward into next season.
