Maxy almost burst into tears as she said her goodbyes during the Great British Bake Off having missed out on the final – but fans were furious.
Over the course of the episode, the bakers were tasked with the infamous Pastry Week and were confronted with making the perfect vol-au-vent, stuffed with a sweet treat.
However, it appeared to be a disastrous week for Maxy who struggled with the technical aspect of the baking competition.
Sharing the news, Matt Lucas said: "I'm sorry to say, the person leaving us this week is Maxy," as the baker instantly appeared heartbroken by the news.
Judges Prue Leith and Paul Hollywood rushed to hug her as Prue said: "Oh Maxy, you've been so brilliant, honestly."
"I can't believe it, I had a bad bad week," said Maxy before adding: "I knew it was coming but I was hoping my showstopper would save me.
"It's really sad to go but I'm happy, I'm proud that I made it this far," before her voice began to crack.
The emotional baker was soon consoled by her co-stars as they rallied around her in the tent, stunned by the news that she was being sent home.
However, viewers at home were left far from impressed as they took to social media, sharing their anger with some commenting that other bakers had "worse weeks" and should have been going home instead of Maxy.
One disgruntled viewer said: "No way should Maxy have gone this week!!! Actual outrage, it's Jurgen all over again!!!!! I'm absolutely livid. #GBBO @BritishBakeOff."
"Kicking Maxy out is honestly the biggest mistake that they could've made #GBBO," fumed a second.
Before a third went on to add: "Maxy had a bad week but a lot better baker than Abdul over course of the show #GBBO."
"I was utterly convinced that Maxy would go on to win the whole thing, I am in shock #GBBO," wrote a fourth.
While a fifth angry fan typed: "Huge well done Maxy on getting all the way to the Quarter Finals! You should be so proud and we can't wait to see where you go next #GBBO.
Elsewhere in the episode, Syabira was handed the star baker for the third consecutive week.
