Bake Off final three revealed after tense semi-final

The finalists for The Great British Bake Off have been revealed. Abdul, Sandro and Syabira were victorious in tonight's (November 8) semi-final.

Only one of them, of course, can rise to the occasion and be crowned ultimate Star Baker when the Channel 4 show's grand final takes place. In tonight's episode, the semi-finalists took part in patisserie week.

They faced a trio of patisserie challenges. These comprised making mini charlottes which demanded great precision, a vertical task in the technical, and a Swedish showstopper.

The technical - upright vertical tarts - proved to be very tough. "Why would you do this to us?!" asked contestant Janusz - and even judge Paul Hollywood acknowledged it was a testing bake, saying: "I can see trouble ahead in the tent."

But despite the stress, there were still plenty of smiles and laughs as the amateur bakers moved on to their very ambitious showstopper. This was a towering Swedish wedding cake - known as a krokan - made with a sort of almond biscuit dough.

Abdul, Sandro and Syabira wowed the judges with their creations and made it through to the final. But Janusz was emotionally eliminated.

Fans of the show had their say as they watched the semi-final. On Twitter, @AnthonyShannon2 said: "Once again have fallen down the utterly delightful @BritishBakeOff rabbit hole. How can watching baking again have me so hooked?"

@Andy_Lea1964 said: "Tuesday evening and a perfect time for comfort TV and comfort food. We've got The Great British Bake Off, together with tea, biscuits and egg custard tarts. I feel better already."

@PrattStuff said: "Watching Bake Off like it's 2015 - a nicer, cooler, happier world." @Wandoful added: "I'm in Spain at the moment and there's no way I'm letting that stop me from watching Bake Off."

Bake Off - now in its 13th series - is presented by Noel Fielding and Matt Lucas, with judges Paul Hollywood and Prue Leith. It follows the trials and tribulations of the contestants, young and old, from every background and every corner of Britain, as they attempt to prove their baking prowess.

The Great British Bake Off final starts at 8pm on Channel 4 next Tuesday (November 15).
