Bake Off fans divided over Paul Hollywood's latest handshake

The Great British Bake Off returned to our screens on Tuesday night as part of Channel 4's Stand Up To Cancer campaign.

GBBO host Matt Lucas found out what it's like to bake in the famous white tent as he stepped in to replace a baker. He had to step in as a last minute replacement for Martine McCutcheon, as revealed by British rapper Example on ITV's Lorraine.

Matt was joined by former Radio 1 DJ Annie Mac, comedian Ed Gamble and musician Example as they tried to impress the judges and earn Star Baker. For Matt though, the only prize he had his eyes on was a Paul Hollywood handshake.

The first challenge was for each baker to make a set of identical biscuits. Annie Mac made some fish-shaped cookies, while Example made a series of unicorns. Ed Gamble made an impressive set of skull-shaped biscuits, while Matt made some snacks in the shape of the badge of his beloved Arsenal. Knowing he wanted a handshake, Paul held out his hand to Matt.

Fellow judge Prue Leith was not happy, and tried to intercept the handshake - which is usually reserved for only the most deserving of bakers. But Paul knocked her arm out of the way and shook Matt's hand. Matt then described his hands as being "coarse, like a builder's but with love and truth to them".

Example called it "nepotism at its finest" and some viewers seemed to agree. Taking to Twitter, Edward Jackson said: "I literally booed Matt's handshake".

However, Craig Geerthsen said: "It counts. I count that... Hollywood handshake, well done Matt Lucas". Cathy Whyte said: "Nah not having that. That's like your dad telling you you've done a good job"
