Bake Off fans convinced The Masked Dancer’s Candlestick is show judge

The Great British Bake Off fans have been left convinced that The Masked Dancer’s contestant Candlestick could be a judge on the Channel 4 show.

The beloved baking show returned to screens on Tuesday evening with a tongue-in-cheek Star Wars skit, featuring hosts Noel Fielding and Matt Lucas alongside judges Paul Hollywood and Prue Leith.

However, fans of the show were left thinking one of the judges could be moonlighting on another show airing at the moment, behind the mask on Candlestick on the celebrity dancing show.

There have been plenty of guesses about who the contestant could be, with names including 'Judge' Robert Rinder, singer Olly Murs and actor Adam Garcia floating around fan theories.

Fans now think that it could be 56-year-old Great British Bake Off judge Paul Hollywood.

During one of the previous episodes, the character said: “I 'knead' to let you know that I went via Tinseltown on the way to success.”

Tinseltown is another name that people call Hollywood – as in the judge’s surname – and knead is in reference to his baking skills.

Viewers took to Twitter to speculate, with one writing: “Masked Dancer Candlestick = Paul Hollywood,” as another questioned: “Could candlestick be Paul Hollywood?”

A third chimed in: "The Masked Dancer candlestick has gotta be Paul Hollywood. Another name for Hollywood is Tinseltown and he’s a judge on gbbo."

"Could Candlestick be Jon Thwaite? Final clue tonight mentioned kneed(ing) and Tinseltown (Paul Hollywood)," a fourth added.

On Tuesday evening, a handful of hopeful amateur bakers descended on the infamous white tent to put their baking and pastry skills to the test as they try to prove their worth in the kitchen.

From breads to biscuits to cakes and of course showstoppers, there are some big tests in store for the group.

The Great British Bake Off returned this week after two years away due to the Covid pandemic, which put huge restrictions on filming and meant everyone had to operate in a Covid bubble.

Ahead of the new series, Paul warned the new set of amateur bakers, saying: “You need to be very brave to do Bake Off as you have to come in front of Prue and myself and be timed.

“It takes a lot of bottle to go into that tent and bake. The timing is the hardest part to deal with.

“I will walk away if they say, ‘Please go away’ but it is incredible to watch them turn from amateurs to professionals. I used to be involved with the auditions but now we can get 20,000 people auditioning and I can’t eat that much cake so I wait until I see them in the tent. I would rather see them fresh in the tent.”
