NEW DELHI: Bajrang Punia — one of the leading faces of the protest against former Wrestling Federation of India (WFI) president Brij Bhushan Sharan Singh — and reigning Commonwealth Games (CWG) gold medallist (86kg), Deepak Punia have both decided to skip the senior World Championships in Belgrade, which is a qualifying event for the Paris Olympics 2024.
Both wrestlers have submitted identical proposals to train in foreign locations, with the dates of their training camps abroad coinciding with the schedule of the selection trials for the Worlds. The trials will be conducted by the Indian Olympic Association (IOA)-appointed ad-hoc committee in NIS Patiala on August 25-26.
