New Doctor Who Ncuti Gatwa flashed his pecks on the BAFTAs red carpet, hours after it was announced he will take over Jodie Whittaker to play the time lord.
The Sex Education star, 29, known for playing fan favourite Eric, arrived with the BBC show's writer Russell T Davies, and wasn't afraid to make a statement in an all black ensemble, which had a cut-out section that bared his muscular physique.
The actor's head-turning outfit came complete with sheer black trousers with long black fringes and sandals- appropriate for the hot weather in the capital.
Speaking on the red carpet for the BAFTA TV Awards, Ncuti Gatwa told the PA news agency he can “finally breathe” following the announcement, after being secretly cast months ago.
He said: “I feel really happy that I can now talk about it because I got cast in February and I have been keeping it a secret since then.
"So it is nice to finally breathe. But also really nervous. It is an incredibly iconic role and an incredibly iconic show. I just hope I do it justice. I am following in some very, very big footsteps so I am just hoping that I fill them up.”
Speaking about how Doctor Who relates to diversity, he added: “He is a Time Lord. He is literally an alien – ‘they’ are an alien.
"And so they can regenerate into anything and anyone. And for me, I just find the show to be the most beautiful form of escapism. You can forget about all your worldly troubles and you get to go to space and battle aliens.
"I feel like anyone can put themselves in those shoes. The Doctor is not from anywhere. They don’t fit in anywhere and I think for marginalised people they have been a real beacon of feeling seen in a way. They are someone that can help people escape, which I love.”
Asked what he will bring to the role, Ncuti, who is up for a gong tonight for Best Comedy Performance in Sex Education, said: “I don’t know… fabulousness!”
Fans went wild at the news that the Rwandan-Scottish performer will play the 14th time lord.
Although Ncuti has never discussed his own sexuality publicly, he said in an interview with Attitude magazine "no one should ever be ashamed of it".
One person wrote on Twitter : “Ncuti is the first ever queer actor to play The Doctor. He is also the first ever actor born outside of this country to play The Doctor. This is an inspired choice, I’ve never been so excited by an initial Doctor announcement!"
Another said: “Fantastic choice. He is going to be amazing. Really excited to see him as #TheDoctor."
A third person wrote: “A female #DoctorWho was wonderful enough... felt progressive and not before time. But now, a black LGBTQ+ doctor? Finally, why has it taken so long?”
One fan said they were glad another Scottish actor had been cast in the role after Sylvester McCoy, David Tennant and Peter Capaldi.
