All Quiet on the Western Front was the big winner, so what's it all about?

As we've mentioned, seven awards went to this film tonight from a staggering 14 nominations.
The antiwar story follows a teenager who voluntarily enlist in the German army in World War I.
The main character, Paul finds himself exposed to the realities of war where his dreams of becoming a hero are replaced with his attempts to survive.
The film is based on the 1929 novel by Erich Maria Remarque.

Who will take out best actor at the Oscars?

Nominees for best actor at the Oscars include Austin Butler, Colin Farrell, Brendan Fraser, Paul Mescal and Bill Nighy.
We just saw Austin Butler take out the leading actor BAFTA, and he also won the Golden Globe for best actor in a drama motion picture in January.
At the Critics Choice awards Brendan Fraser took out the best actor for The Whale.
This race is hard to call, but considering Paul Mescal and Bill Nighy haven't seen much love in this category, even at the BAFTAS, their chances are slimming.
Pinocchio's red carpet moment

Shout out to the only red carpet look I want to talk about.
Here's two of the tiny stars of Guillermo del Toro's Pinnochio from earlier tonight.

The BAFTAs have been handed out, but what does it tell us about the Oscars?

The BAFTAs are wrapped up but the awards season will go on.
So, let's take a look at what the awards so far tell us about what's to come.
In the director category, Edward Berger took out the BAFTA for best director with All Quiet on the Western Front.
But the Director's Guild Awards were also on this weekend and they favoured Daniel Kwan & Daniel Scheinert for Everything Everywhere All at Once.
The Daniels, as they're called, also took out the directing category at the Critics Choice awards.
At the Golden Globes, Steven Spielberg won for The Fabelmans, but he wasn't even nominated for a BAFTA.
So I think it's fair to say the Daniels are the frontrunners in this category.
Emma Mackey named Best Rising Star

Sex Education's Emma Mackey posed up on the red carpet afte taking home the BAFTA Rising Star award.
She beat fellow Sex Education star Aimee Lou Wood, something I'm sure will cause no drama at all.

Lets circle back to the Banshees of Inisherin winning best British film

If you've been following along, you'll know that the Banshees of Inisherin, which is shot in Oreland with a largely Irish cast and crew won best British film.
When he took the stage, filmmaker Martin McDonagh joked “Best what award?”
But we've figured out why it's eligible for the award.
The Banshees of Inisherin has British funding, and McDonagh was born in Britain to Irish parents.
Case closed!
Austin's still got his Elvis twang

Austin Butler had lots of thanks to give when accepting his BAFTA for leading actor, and his Elvis twang made an appearance.
"This is truly extraordinary, thank you all so much," he says.
"This is amazing, I'm really trying to take everything in and be really present."
Last but not least, he gets choked up as he thanks the Presley family.
Kerry Condon: 'Oh my god, thanks a million'

In case you missed it — yes, that is Kerry Condon taking a cheeky second look at the envelope after Troy Kotsur's interpreter accidentally announced Carey Mulligan as the Best Supporting Actress winner.
The Banshees of Inisherin star thanked director Martin McDonagh for the role.
"You make me so proud to be an Irish woman, thank you so much," she said.
"And an amazing cast, you were so kind and generous to me."
There may have been one big winner, but two other films also did well

They may not have received seven awards at the BAFTAS, but there are two films that landed four.
The Banshees of Inisherin took out best British film, original screenplay, and awards for Kerry Condon as best supporting actress and Barry Keoghan for best supporting actor.
Elvis also won four, including leading actor, casting, costume design and hair and makeup.
Aussie director Baz Lurhmann was snubbed from the nomination but his talented wife Catherine Martin won for costume design, so that's another win for the locals.

She hit the red carpet as son Paul's plus-one, though he missed out on a Best Actor win for Aftersun.

I think it's fair to say this film cleaned up at the BAFTAs this year.
It won for best film, director, adapted screenplay, cinematography, sound, score and film not in English language.
Pretty impressive if you ask me.
Let's take a look at Cate Blanchett's speech

In accepting her BAFTA, Cate Blanchett recognised her fellow nominees.
"All of my fellow nominees the conversation with you off the screen and on the screen have been nothing short of remarkable and we know that we're just the tip of the iceberg," Blanchett says.
"Every year, these idiosyncratic remarkable performances just break down the myth that women experience is monolithic."
She says this role took her away from her family a lot.
