As film buffs across the country settled down to watch this year’s British Academy Film Awards (BAFTAS), which was screened on BBC One and BBC iPlayer on Sunday, February 19, viewers soon expressed their thoughts on what some referred to as an 'extremely awkward' interview
With Richard E Grant and Alison Hammond hosting the 2023 red carpet event at The Royal Festival Hall, the two-hour programme saw a host of stars, filmmakers, and behind-the-scenes members waiting with bated breath to see if they would take home a coveted trophy.
However, some people have found parts of the ceremony very awkward. Fans took to social media to blast the star's backstage interviews with Hammond, blaming the edit and strange conversations.

Billed as a celebration of the year’s best films, the ceremony was opened by a performance by BAFTA award-winner Ariana DeBose. Little Simz was joined on stage by Joan Armatrading for an exclusive surprise performance.
In addition, Yorkshire Live reported that the show began with a humorous intro seeing one of the co-hosts Richard E Grant take the Batmobile to the ceremony after chatting with renowned awards host Steve Martin. However, when the awards started flying in, people became angry at the awkwardness.
In one interview between Alison Hammond and Dame Helen Mirren, one person on social media said it was "uncomfortable" especially when Alison's joke about going to an afterparty fell on deaf ears.
One viewer said: “Oh god. This is cringeworthy. Alison Hammond is lovely I’m sure but just not right for this.” Another added: “Then Alison Hammond appeared and it all went to s***”. A third joined in: “Another job that should have been given to someone with qualifications but no!!...let’s give it to Alison Hammond.”
The comments continued: “I like the idea of this Alison Hammond bit, but we barely get to see many categories as it is…let alone when time is taken up with this.” Another said: “Well that was one uncomfortable heavily edited 'chat' between Helen Mirren and Alison Hammond”.
But not everyone felt the same way, some were loving Alison as a co-host. People were praising having a more conversational host One fan wrote: “Alison Hammond is the perfect host for this”, another agreed, writing all in capitals: “ALISON HAMMOND LET'S GOOOOO”.
Others said: “Richard E Grant and Alison Hammond,…. the new Mick Fleetwood and Sam Fox”, but someone else added: “Alison Hammond?....sorry I just don’t get it!”
