BAE's military planes seen flying over Bristol area as war in Ukraine rages

More military planes are flying over the Bristol area today as more Ukrainian cities were being bombarded overnight in what has been described as "full-scale genocide".

The Mirror reports 2,000 civilians have been killed in the six days of war with Russia so far. Whole districts of Mariupol, in south eastern Ukraine, have been levelled as the city is surrounded by invading forces while artillery rains down.

Putin's grip on major cities such as Kharkiv or Kyiv also continues to tighten and, despite the intense shelling, they both remain under Ukraine control. Earlier this week, two American bomber planes passed over Bristol as RAF Tankers continue to fly out of Brize Norton while the Russian offensive continues.

And more military planes are being seen on our skies today. Earlier this morning, a VSB2/VSB02 BAE plane flew over southern and western parts of the city after setting off from North Somerset. And BAE system's Hawk T1A - which are part of the RAF - are also being over Somerset, Wiltshire and Dorset this morning.

More planes are departing from RAF bases at Fairford and Brize Norton as the Russian invasion of Ukraine continues. In the last few days we have seen B-52's, CV-22 Osprey's, Airbuses and Typhoon jets race out of South West airbases, reports GloucestershireLive.

Already this morning (March 3) a C-130 Hercules has left Brize Norton. Much of the activity is connected to a NATO mission to defend allied airspaces against Russia in the face of their invasion of Ukraine.

A U-2 spy plane has also left RAF Fairford this morning. NATO Allied Air Command has confirmed that the RAF Airbus planes flying out of Brize Norton have been helping to refuel and support Typhoon fighters over Europe who are trying to defend the region after Russian aggression.

They said: "RAF Eurofighter Typhoon fighters have taken to the skies as part of NATO's mission to secure NATO airspace, part of the Allied response after Russian forces invaded Ukraine." The city of Kherson is surrounded by Russian troops, with the Kremlin claiming it has seized control.

Western leaders are reluctant to implement a no-fly zone over Ukraine in fear of escalating the conflict into a full-scale global war with Russia. Kremlin foreign minister Sergei Lavrov warned the west that 'World War 3 will be nuclear and destructive' in an apparent effort to deter any planned interventions.

And, in Bristol, a collection point for Ukrainians has been flooded with donations while a Clifton barber is inviting the city's Ukrainian residents to have a free haircut at his salon. As chants were underway on College Green following the march last night, a man dressed in the colours of the Ukrainian flag took out his Russian passport. He held a lighter to the bottom of it and watched as it went up in flames.
