Plans to change a Merseyside town centre have been published as part of a £2.5m scheme.
Sefton Council has suggested that Southport town centre could have Eastbank Street's speed limit reduced to 20mph as well as pedestrianising part of Market Street and making part of King Street one way for traffic leaving Eastbank Street. The plans, labelled Les Transformations, will use funding from the Town Deal secured last year which will see millions pumped into the town.
Despite the optimism surrounding the plans as the council looks to capitalise on the success of the reopened Southport Market with changes to how people access the food-orientated venue, people in the town don't seem to be massive fans of the proposals.

Following the original story published by the ECHO earlier this week, people have voiced their opinions on the possible changes. Justin Jarrett said: "20mph on Eastbank Street is too slow and will cause congestion. Badly thought out idea by Sefton Council."
Paddy Carney said: "20 you actually joking it’s a main road?"
Although people were fuming with the proposed changes, one person pointed out that people often struggle to get to 30mph on the road as it is. Paula Robinson said: "Don’t think I’ve ever been able to get up to 30mph on Eastbank Street!"
Alan Thomas has claimed there needs to be something done about the amount of litter in Southport. He said: "Need to stop lazy arrogant people of all ages dropping litter on the floor! Chapel st etc are a shambles the council litter pickers do their best."
