The Pro Bowl squads have been announced this week before the best NFL players from each position will play an end of season game just prior to the Super Bowl.
The Pro Bowl has huge benefits for players, who usually will receive bonuses on their contracts for making the team, as well as elevating their stock if they are to become free agents in the near future.
Should players who are named to the squad play in the Super Bowl the following week, they are exempt from festivities, with alternates being named and ready to take their place.
And in a bizarre move, Baltimore Ravens back-up quarterback Tyler Huntley has been named as an alternate, despite him starting just two games and throwing for zero touchdowns.
Huntley has shown himself to be a capable back-up over the last three seasons in lieu of Lamar Jackson, but has mightily struggled as a passer this season, showing his limits with the Ravens offense.
But despite his struggles, he has been named as the fourth alternate should any of Patrick Mahomes, Josh Allen and Joe Burrow head to the Super Bowl or simply choose not to attend.
It will be a huge boost to Huntley, who is set to become a free agent this summer. However, with Jackson's future unclear, it remains to be seen if Huntley could indeed become a starter in Baltimore in 2023.
Huntley has flashed in his three seasons, and did garner trade interest last year after a number of impressive performances.
Jackson meanwhile, played on the franchise tag this season and will not reportedly do the same in 2023, as he looks for a long-term contract from Baltimore, after reportedly already turning one offer down.
If he does not agree a deal with the Ravens, the 25-year-old will become a free-agent - a rarity to see a former MVP quarterback available on the market at his age.
Jackson has struggled with injuries throughout his career, but remains a top 10 quarterback in the league, combining his devastating rushing ability with his cannon of an arm as a passer.
Many analysts predict that around 10-12 teams will be looking for an upgrade at quarterback, in what also looks to be a strong draft class at the position.
Whatever the case, it looks to be that one of either Jackson or Huntley could move on - with potentially both Ravens passers playing in the Pro Bowl together this season.
