Tom Mitchell has revealed he was a whisker away from having to withdraw from Collingwood's preliminary final before going on to play a key role in their AFL premiership.

The prolific midfielder limited Brisbane Lions star and fellow Brownlow medallist Lachie Neale's influence in Saturday's season decider and found plenty of the ball himself.
