BENGALURU: It was a typical spring evening in Estoril, late April, Rohan Bopanna was walking down the riviera. The air was light, his heart was heavy.
The Indian's first seven tournament outings in 2021 had come with six different partners and his win-loss record for the season was a dismal 0-7. As he paused to take in the stunning sights, letting the cool, evening air wash over him, Bopanna contemplated retirement. "Sometimes you need to remind yourself why you started playing, remember the joy in the journey when you started," he said. "Then you need to tell yourself what the reality is."
