When Simon Whitlock failed to reach the PDC world championships at Alexandra Palace last year after 15 straight appearances, many presumed time was up at 55 for Australia's most famous darts player on the most celebrated stage in the sport.
But the great news for all admirers of one of the sport's cult 'dartistes' is that the 'Wizard', wacky beard and all, is back in business, rejuvenated and ready for yet another crack at the showpiece event at 'Ally Pally' at the age of 56.
Whitlock made it back by winning the ANZ Premier League in Brisbane last month. It was worth Stg 15,000 ($A30,000) to the man from Hornsby, NSW, but the feeling of returning for a 22nd crack at winning world title was priceless.
