Baby turned blue after dad followed online anti-Covid conspiracy theory

A six-month-old baby girl turned blue and had to be rushed to hospital after a dad fearing she had Covid turned to an online conspiracy forum for advice.

The US dad was concerned when his baby girl started showing flu-like symptoms one week after her mum tested positive for Covid.

He logged onto a QAnon Telegram group for people who say Covid is a hoax and asked for advice, reports Vice.

QAnon is an American far-right political conspiracy theory and movement, centred on claims made by an anonymous person or persons known only as Q.

QAnon followers have claimed a cult of Satanic, cannibalistic, paedophiles runs a global sex trafficking ring.

QAnon supporters were among those who stormed the Capitol in the USA.

He asked whether it was safe to give the drug ivermectin to a baby. Ivermectin is an antiparasitic medicine used to treat things such as head lice infestations, and has been proposed as a potential treatment for Covid.

There is no clinical evidence to support the use of the drug and it is widely accepted amongst medical professionals that it should not be taken.

One group member responded: “Baby aspirin to thin the blood a little and drop any fever and I would put some ivermectin on the bottoms of her feet."

Others urged him to wait for ivermectin veterans in the group to give their view, reports The Mirror.

Katie said: “From what I understand, yes it is safe to give to an infant, however please stop calling it Covid, it’s not Covid, it’s a simple cold. That’s how we got in this mess to begin with.”

The dad followed advice and gave his daughter 100mg of ivermectin.

Within minutes she became worse, started vomiting and turned blue.

Group members begged Jason to take his daughter to hospital, which he did.

He later said she was “doing better”.

He added: “God knew what to do even though I thought hospital was certain death. Thanks for everyone’s advice.”
