A nine-month-old baby girl with Covid has died after being found unresponsive in a house overflowing with rubbish with her mother was heard shouting "go, go, go" the night she died.
Australian police found the child at a home in Doonside, Sydney, Australia, on Monday.
Paramedics were called but were unable to revive the baby.
Both of her parents and the kid were found to have Covid but the baby's cause of death is still unknown as authorities are still waiting on toxicology reports.
The dirty house contained nappies and piles of rubbish dotted around.
A family of two parents and four children are believed to have been living there and neighbours often heard loud arguments coming from the property.
The couple has been taken to the nearby Blacktown police station for questioning but they have not been charged.
Local media outlet 7 news reported that there were "small inconsistencies" in what each of the baby's parents told police.
Police were responding to a welfare check when they found the house in disarray. Children had been seen playing around the house a few weeks before.
The house is reported to have had a strong and unpleasant smell with beer bottles and broken toys among the rubbish strewn across the outside.
Local resident Karen Nicholas described the incident as a "tragedy".
She told Daily Mail Australia: "The parents, I think they had some issues. It's just a tragedy. I don't know whether it was an accident or a natural death.
"I was devastated actually that someone so young won't continue on with their life.
Neighbour Jessica had previously reported two pet dogs in the back yard of the property to the RSPCA, who later removed them.
"I saw the dogs, but I barely saw the children. I feel so terrible I didn't notice anything. I heard them (the parents of the children) shouting at each other... fighting. I never saw the baby."
The house was nearby to 16-year-old Jason Galleghan was killed in August 2021.
Jason was found unresponsive in Doonside with injuries to his head and chest after police alleged four boys and two girls aged between 13 and 19 took turns stomping on him.
Paramedics managed to revive Jason after performing CPR, but he died in hospital three days later.
Karen added: "I have lived in this community for 33 years and you get the odd incident, but a year ago Jason was killed. It's heartbreaking that so many young lives are lost."
