A tiny baby is fighting for her life after being born 13 weeks premature. Sadie MacMillan has been on an intensive care unit since arriving dangerously early on October 21.
As reported by Leeds Live, doctors had to perform an emergency C-section on her mum Holly, 19. Little Sadie came into the world weighing just 970 grams - just over two pounds.
And she is expected to remain on the unit at Leeds Hospital for anywhere between eight to 13 weeks. Her father Lachlan said: "It’s been incredibly difficult. I thought I was going to lose either Sadie or Holly."
Lachlan, 20, who met Holly in Keighley, West Yorkshire, says the entire ordeal terrified him and he and Holly desperately hope Sadie can make a full recovery. He said: "Baby Sadie decided she wanted to come out 13 weeks early and this had to happen via emergency general anaesthetic caesarean section.
"Holly, Sadie’s mum, is recovering well after surgery but it will be a long recovery for her. Sadie on the other hand is a very poorly baby because she is so early."
Lachlan and Sadie, who also have a three-year-old, are appealing for help in paying for special clothes and baby apparatus. On their GoFundMe page, they wrote: "The reason we have put up this Go Fund Me is so that we can get tiny baby clothes, we need a breast pump, and preemie nappies etc.
"Sadie will be in the NICU for approx eight to 13 weeks but will be a small baby for a long time. We weren’t expecting her so soon so we weren’t very prepared and now need all the help we can get. We are really appreciative of any support we can get."
