Parents are being warned that many popular baby food pouches contain more sugar than Coca-Cola. This comes as dentists are seeing an "epidemic" of tooth decay among young children. The news is a result of a survey by the British Dental Association (BDA), which examined the sugar contents of over 100 baby food pouches.
When it comes to babies, it can be tough for new parents to know what's best for their newborns. Understandably, brands which specialise in baby foods are trusted to use only healthy ingredients.
But even seemingly healthy ingredients, like fruit, contain high amounts of natural sugars which can be harmful to babies' teeth. The survey found that out of 109 pouches aimed at children under 12 months old, more than a quarter contained more sugar by volume than Coca-Cola.
