The Browns’ thrilling 39-38 win against the Colts came with a game-winning drive and a hint of controversy—but neither of those things are what made Sunday’s game at Lucas Oil Stadium truly extraordinary.
Case in point: A fan gave birth to a baby girl inside the stadium about 20 minutes after kickoff.
As it turns out, the child is the newborn niece of Browns wide receiver David Bell, according to WTTV-TV and WXIN-TV. Bell, an Indianapolis native who played at Purdue, told reporters that his cousin was hoping to have the baby prior to Sunday’s game.
“Her whole idea was to try to have the baby before the game, but you know it’s all in God’s time,” Bell said. “So, now I have a new niece. So, hopefully I get to see her when I come back to the city.”
Kareem Butler, Bell’s mother, told WXIN that Bell’s niece was due to be born Oct. 26. However, the baby’s mother “went into labor” while crossing the street to enter the stadium.
“So, when they got here, they went to the first aid,” Butler said. “By the time they got her back there, the baby was crowning, and they delivered her here at the stadium at 1:20.”
The Browns improved to 4-2 on the season, and Bell ended his Sunday with a win and a new family member to love.
