Baby 'bitten from head to toe by spider beetles' sparks housing plea

A mum-of-four is desperate for a house move after her baby was left covered "head to toe" with what she believes are bite marks from an infestation of spider beetles.

Kerry Jackson, 27, had been living in Runcorn when she moved back to Widnes in July last year to help her family and support her parents due to her older sister dying of cancer. She told the ECHO the Halton Housing property she and her children were moved into on Queen’s Avenue in Widnes seemed fine at first during the hot summer of 2021, but then the weather turned and she began to hear the wind rattling and whistling through her bedroom window and she was advised to tape it up with towels.

Soon she noticed a bad smell around her radiator, and a housing association worker told her there was a dead rat under the floor. Kerry said that was followed by an infestation of more than 100 bluebottle flies and staff told her she was “being dramatic”, and again another dead rat was found with a “horrendous” smell, followed by the discovery of rat poo in a cupboard in her son’s room and fly larva.
