Governor Biswa Bhusan Harichandan paid rich tributes to Babu Jagjivan Ram, former Deputy Prime Minister of India on Tuesday, on his 115th birth anniversary at a programme held in the Durbar Hall of Raj Bhavan.
Mr. Harichandan offered floral tributes to a portrait of Babu Jagjivan Ram and said that he was a national leader of great stature, a great freedom fighter and crusader of social justice. He was a champion of the oppressed classes, Mr. Harichandan said.
“Babu Jagjivan Ram was an outstanding Parliamentarian and a true democrat who served in the country’s politics for over half a century and as a distinguished Union Minister for over thirty years, with commitment, dedication and devotion for the upliftment of the oppressed classes,” the Governor said.
He played an active role in the freedom struggle and participated in the Civil Disobedience Movement and satyagraha, Mr. Harichandan said. Special Chief Secretary to the Governor R.P. Sisodia and other officers and staff members of Raj Bhavan were present.
