Babies' Magic Tea Gripe Water Lot Recalled After FDA Tests Found Methanol, Isopropanol, and 8.3% Ethanol

Parents who reach for gripe water to settle a fussy baby should check one specific bottle. Pacific Health Sciences is recalling lot 25122bw of Babies' Magic Tea brand Baby Sleep Gripe Water after FDA testing found ethanol, methanol, and isopropanol that were not listed on the label, according to the company announcement posted by the FDA on Oct. 7.

The measured levels were about 8.3% ethanol, 0.35% methanol, and 0.48% isopropanol. Ethanol is the alcohol in beer and wine, while methanol and isopropanol are industrial alcohols that are not meant to be swallowed. The company said it has received no reports of illness or other adverse events tied to this lot.
