'Babes in the Wood' killer died in prison after catching Covid and choosing not to shield despite cancer diagnosis

'Babes in the Wood' killer Russell Bishop, died after contracting Covid while serving a life prison sentence at Frankland Prison.

Bishop, who had been diagnosed with several forms of cancer, was 20-years-old in 1986 when he sexually assaulted and murdered two nine-year-old girls Nicola Fellows and Karen Hadaway in Brighton. He was initially cleared of their murders in December 1987 but within three years he went on to kidnap, molest and throttle a seven-year-old girl who he left for dead at the Devil's Dyke in Sussex.

While serving life for attempted murder, Bishop was re-tried for the 'Babes in the Wood' murders when new DNA evidence became available. He was finally convicted in 2018, age 55, and jailed for 36 years.
