Shoppers will be stocking up on their Christmas essentials ahead of the festivities at the weekend - but for any last-minute bits you may want to check store opening times before heading to the shops.
Many retailers will be closing their doors over the Christmas period, giving staff a well-deserved break. With Christmas Day falling on a Sunday this year, both Boxing Day (Monday, December 26) and the following day (Tuesday, December 27) will be bank holidays.
Many retailers will keep stores open throughout the Christmas period, aside from Christmas Day. But others have decided to close over some or all of the bank holiday too.

Shoppers are being urged to check the opening hours for individual stores before heading out to avoid any disappointment as some may be adjusting their opening and closing times over the festive period too.
Bargain retailers B&M and Home Bargains have both released details of their altered opening hours. B&M will be closed on Christmas Day before reopening on Boxing Day, while Home Bargains will close for two days, reopening on Tuesday. Here's everything you need to know.
B&M
B&M will close stores nationwide on Christmas Day. The majority of stores will then reopen on Boxing Day.
The retailer says customers should check individual store opening times on the B&M website. A number of Greater Manchester stores - including Hulme, Belle Vue and Trafford Retail Park - will be open at the following times over Christmas:
- Saturday, December 24: 8am to 6pm
- Sunday, December 25: Closed
- Monday, December 26: 8am to 6pm
- Tuesday, December 27: 8am to 9pm
- Wednesday, December 28: 8am to 9pm
Home Bargains
Home Bargains will close all of its stores for two days over the Christmas bank holiday weekend. UK stores will be closed on Christmas Day and Boxing Day , but most will be open on the Tuesday Bank Holiday, with some limited hours.
Stores will also be open on Christmas Eve (December 24), but they will shut at the earlier time of 5pm.
Home Bargains said the three-day closure is to ensure that staff members can spend some time with loved ones at Christmas. A spokesperson said: "We know how hard all our colleagues have worked throughout the year. Being a family-run business, we recognise the importance of spending quality time with our loved ones. Therefore, we feel it is only right to support our valued store teams by giving them extended time off around Christmas and New Year."
To check opening hours for individual stores, you can visit the Home Bargains website. A number of Greater Manchester stores - including White City Retail Park, Fallowfield Retail Park and Regent Retail Park in Salford - will be open at the following times over Christmas:
