Ayrshire youth theatre stars set to stage Scottish version of Grease in hilarious musical

Budding performers look set to recreate a musical sensation when they take to the stage in Ayrshire.

The cast of Ayr-based Hipshot will take over Kilmarnock's Palace Theatre both tonight and Friday for a two-show run.

Their take on Grease and its sequel – called 'Chipfat The Musical' – is promising plenty of laughs for entertainment for all the family.

And Hipshot boss Chris Taylor says the company's latest creation is up there with their best work.

He told Ayrshire Live: "The kids never cease to amaze me with the standards they set and I think our audiences are going to be wowed by this show.

"The young talent we have among our cast are simply a joy to write for.

"They take on my ideas and just run with them – and they have such a huge input into the shows themselves.

"Everyone knows what a huge hit Grease was, but I've always been slagged for saying I thought Grease 2 was the better musical.

"I will die on that hill and despite what anyone or the box office numbers say, I'll always defend the sequel.

"Our show is a Scottish take on both productions and we've had a fantastic laugh putting it together."

Hipshot has become renowned for its steady stream of big-stage performances catching the eye with the likes of 'The Fakest Showman,' 'The Walking Neds' and 'Britain's Forgot Talent' proving huge hits.

Chris, 39, added: "I'm really proud of this production as a couple of our performers now identify as non-binary and this show helps explore their journeys.

"They are such mature young people and a privilege to work with and I honestly believe we have some of the best youth performers in the whole of Scotland.

"We also have the superbly talented Abbie Watson who is choreographer and musical director on the show, and I am confident this is among our best pieces of work yet."

Tickets are still available £12 and £14 from the Palace Box Office on (01563) 554900.
