Ayrshire’s top police officer has today backed a promotional drive to help make officers more ‘approachable’ to children.
Chief Superintendent Faroque Hussain wants parents and guardians to teach their children that police officers are here to help — not hinder.
CS Hussain took to social media while posting a promotional Police Scotland video, called ‘My Police Book,’ written and presented by Detective Constable Stewart Fleming, accompanied by illustrations by Staci Jo Rowlinson.
In the six and a half minute YouTube clip DC Fleming talks about three fictional characters called Ben, Lily and Isaac who all benefit in one way or another from police help and assistance.
And Chief Superintendent Hussain hopes the video can strike a chord with those in Ayrshire who may be wary of dealing with police.
In a Tweet, DS Hussain said: “Please don’t make children scared of the police.
“Don’t tell them that the police will ‘lock them up’ or ‘catch you if you’re naughty.’
“We want children to come to us if they’re scared, lost or in danger, not run away from us.
"We’re here to #KeepPeopleSafe."
DC Fleming says at the end of the video: “Please remember, when you are out and about, give us a wave and come and say ‘Hi.’”
