Two young boys were robbed by a gang in Irvine town centre on Saturday night.
Details of the incident have been released by police as they ask for the public’s help in tracing those responsible.
Six suspects are being sought after two lads, aged 11 and 13, were confronted by five males and one female on the precinct at Bridgegate having just left the Rivergate shopping centre around 7.25pm.
One of the group rifled through the boys’ pockets before making off with personal items and cash.
The boys were not injured but police say they have been left “shaken” and “distressed” by what happened.
Descriptions of the six people, who were all white, police would like to speak to are as follows:
● Male aged 16 to 18 wearing grey hooded top with hood up and black tracksuit trousers, blue trainers.
● Male aged 18 to 20 with long black hair and a beard. He was wearing a black tracksuit top, black tracksuit trousers, dark trainers and was carrying a black rucksack.
● Male aged 16 to 18 wearing a black hooded top with hood up, black shorts, white trainers and was carrying a black rucksack.
● Male aged 16 to 18 with short brown hair and wearing grey hooded top, grey shorts, black trainers.
● Male aged 16 to 18 wearing black body warmer, black and grey hooded top with black hood up, white skip cap under the hood, black mask covering lower face, black shorts, white trainers.
● Female aged 16 to 18 with dark hair, wearing a grey padded jacket with a hood, black leggings, white shoes and was carrying a large black holdall.
Detective Constable Stevie Williams, from Ayrshire Division CID, said: “From our enquiries so far, we know that the main suspect was in the company of four other male youths and a female youth at the time.
“The group had been in the general area and were being very loud with members of the public being aware of their general behaviour.
“People might not have noticed that they had robbed the young boys, but from CCTV, the public were aware of their presence.
“After the robbery, the suspects walked through Rivergate shopping centre, past Asda in the direction of Irvine train station or Harbourside.
“We are keen to hear from anyone who either saw the robbery or who has any information that will assist tracing those responsible.
“Please call police via 101 quoting reference number 3564 of Saturday, 27 May 2023. Alternatively, Crimestoppers can be contacted anonymously on 0800 555 111.”
