Chef's 'dream' realised as Gordon Ramsay announces grand final line-up for Next Level Chef

An Ayrshire Paralympian has cooked his way to the grand final of Next Level Chef.

Callum Deboys, from Prestwick, impressed judges in the intense penultimate round of the show to reach the last three.

The 26-year-old has been rolling back the years to his days as a professional chef after competing in an epic 50ft three storey kitchen.

His stint working in top kitchens was tragically cut short when he had to have his leg amputated following a horrific motorcycle crash in 2015 aged just 19.

But he's shown his skills have never left him, cooking all the way to the final of the show hosted by Gordon Ramsay, who co-judges with Michelin star chef Paul Ainsworth and top US chef Nyesha Arrington.

Now he is just one cook-off away from being crowned the winner and earning himself a top prize of £100,000.

Callum had to fight his way to the final cooking from the basement level kitchen giving him an instant uphill struggle.

The show is set over three levels, with the quality of the kitchen and the produce available dipping each level down.

The top level is a world class kitchen - full of the best equipment, with the bottom level scarce on quality goods.

After passing through to the semi-final by the skin of his teeth Callum had to cook his way from the basement with the theme the Best of British.

Contestants were given 15 seconds to grab ingredients which dropped down from the level above.

Callum returned to the dish which achieved top plaudits on the first round, by grabbing a pork chop.

Once again, his pork was cooked to perfection with Chef Ramsay and Chef Ainsworth purring over the dish which also including black pudding and blue cheese bon bons.

Callum then faced an anxious wait along with the other contestants over what two chefs would make it through to next week's final.

And the star was in dreamland when he was confirmed as the second entry, after social media chef Jade was put through first.

An emotional Callum celebrated and clapped as chef Ramsay confirmed his place.

And he told chef Ramsay: "It's an absolute dream chef."

He later added: "We're going to the final! I'm honestly blown away."

The final will air on STV next Thursday (March 2) at 9pm. The semi-final is available on the STV Player or catch up.
