Ayrshire housing development approved despite bid to have it rejected

A 60-house development in Irvine’s North Newmoor was given the green last week, despite a councillor asking for it to be rejected.

The site, which is near the Amer Sports building and is also close to Crompton Way, came before North Ayrshire Council’s planning committee last Wednesday.

The housing includes detached, semi-detached, and terraced houses, with a total of six different designs (house types).

All house types are two storeys and feature integral garages.

Arran councillor Timothy Billings said: “I had a good look at this site and there appear to be some footpaths missing. Is that something which could be looked at? No access is shown to four gardens.

“One footpath ends at the bottom of a garden and there is no access into that house from outside.”

Councillor Billings put forward an amendment that the development should be refused over concerns about design and that it didn’t comply with strategic policy.

But the motion, proposed by Councillor Davidson that the application be granted provided the concerns about access were addressed, was passed by five votes to three.
