An Ayrshire hotel hopes to corner the market with a brand new offering for newly wedded couples.
The Carlton Hotel, in Prestwick’s Ayr Road, has been given approval to build a new honeymoon suite - complete with a private balcony, pergola and three new bedrooms.
The hotel is owned by the Cumnock-based RAD Group and their plans were approved by South Ayrshire Council.
Planning permission was sought to build a flat-roofed extensions at first-floor level of the hotel to form a honeymoon suite and three additional bedrooms.
The planning papers state: “The extension to form a honeymoon suite has been set back from the edge of the roof and, whilst a balcony area with timber pergola is proposed (with this accessible only from the extension), the proposed extension and balcony overlook the roof of the hotel and the car park, with the boundary with the nearest neighbouring residential property located approximately 32 metres from the proposed extension.
“The proposed additional upper floor bedrooms are partially screened from view by the proposed honeymoon suite.
“Therefore, the proposed extension will not give rise to any significantly adverse amenity concerns to any other rooms of the hotel or to any residential properties in the locale.”
One condition attached is that, prior to the build, samples or a brochure of all materials to be used on external surfaces, in respect of "type, colour and texture," shall be submitted for the prior written approval of the Planning Authority.
