Ayrshire Hospice appoints Tracy Flynn as new CEO

The interim head of Ayrshire Hospice has landed the job on a full-time basis.

Tracy Flynn – who has been holding the fort since the sudden departure of Carla MacEwan in March – will be handed the task of steadying the ship as the charity's new CEO.

Mrs Flynn, who has served as director of patient and family services since October, will take up the role for an initial two-year period.

She had previously held nursing roles across the hospice's inpatient and day services unit.

Mrs Flynn also worked as a specialist palliative care nurse within the community team where she played a key role in the scoping and development of their triage service.

Mrs Flynn, who lives in Ayr with her husband and two daughters, has held senior nursing and leadership roles within palliative and end-of-life care settings as well as cancer care and the pharmaceutical industry.

She said: “It is my greatest privilege to take on the responsibility of CEO of the Ayrshire Hospice for the people of Ayrshire & Arran.

"My ambition is that everyone across the region, regardless of where they live, should have access to the highest standard of palliative and end of life care.

"The Ayrshire Hospice is a wonderful organisation to be a part of.

"I personally have a long-standing connection with the hospice and it is truly important to me to ensure that we build a beautiful new hospice with patients and their families at its heart."

Mrs Flynn's appointment follows the dramatic departure of Ms MacEwan, who was moved on by the hospice board following a string of concerns raised by staff and senior management.

A bitter fallout greeted the end of her 18-month tenure amid allegations of poor leadership and "multiple complaints" from concerned staff.

The hospice is currently driving a £13 million project to rebuild its base at Racecourse Road in Ayr as part of an ambitious capital programme.
