An Ayrshire doctors surgery is under 'extreme pressure' due to a shortage of staff.
Station Road Medical Practice in Prestwick has issued a warning to patients today asking them to only get in touch for emergencies.
Patients were sent the NHS alert earlier this morning to advise of the staff shortages hammering the surgery.
The alert reads: "Station Road Medical Practice is under extreme pressure today due to GP staff shortage.
"We kindly request that patients contact us only for emergency issues. Thank You."
Vicki Campbell, Head of Primary and Urgent Care Services said: "We are currently experiencing extremely high demand for our primary care services and, despite our staff working hard to assess and treat all patients, we have had to prioritise care in Station Road Surgery for urgent and emergency care only.
"For patients needing care that is not urgent, we would encourage them to visit www.nhsinform.scot, which can provide information on various illnesses, injuries and conditions. Out of hours, call NHS24 on 111.
"We would like to thank patients for their help and understanding as we continue to work under extremely difficult circumstances. If we all work together we can ensure that our services are there to look after those who need them most."
