Ayrshire golfers club together to boost coffers at cancer support charity

Ayrshire golfers swung into action and held a fundraising drive to boost the coffers at a local charity.

The group raised £1,000 from a golf event and the proceeds will go to Ayrshire Cancer Support.

The charity was delighted to welcome the president, assistant district governor and secretary of the Rotary Club of Prestwick to their new Ayr centre.

They were presented with a cheque for £1,000, raised from a Golf AMAM event, at Prestwick Golf Club.

And the cash comes on the back of a recent presentation by Nicola George, of Ayrshire Cancer Support, at a Rotary Club meeting, which outlined the charity’s plans for their new cancer support centre.

Rotary members were keen to financially support the refurbishment work which needs to be carried out to create a new centre for children, young people and adults affected by cancer in Ayrshire.

And Rotary Club of Prestwick president Stephen Cooper said: “Prestwick Rotary congratulates Ayrshire Cancer Support for the scale of their ambition and vision with this wonderful development on our doorstep.

“We are delighted to contribute £1,000 from our Golf AMAM to their capital build fundraising campaign and wish them every success with the new support centre.”

Nicola George, corporate and individual giving lead at Ayrshire Cancer Support, said: “We thank the members of the Rotary Club of Prestwick and all who competed in their recent Golf AMAM to raise urgently needed funds for our capital fundraising appeal.

“Ayrshire Cancer Support, whilst it has a very large remit and delivers over 23,000 supported appointments through our free patient transport, counselling and drop-ins in a normal year, we are a very small team.

“We need to generate £2,500 every day, just to keep our free services running – it would be impossible to help so many people without support from organisations like the Rotary Club of Prestwick.

“Now we need to raise sufficient funds to undertake major building work at the new centre, which will see a bespoke area for children and young people as well as all the facilities our current Kilmarnock centre hosts – counselling rooms, a drop-in centre, and treatment rooms.

“We are honoured that the Rotary Club of Prestwick is helping us to Make it Happen!”
