Jayden Mitchell-Lawson admits he’s had to be patient since his summer move to Ayr United.
But he hopes his stunning impact at Gayfield will leave fans in no doubt about what he brings to the table.
The winger won a penalty and scored a cracking second after stepping off the bench to help the Honest Men to a 2-0 win at Arbroath.
It all helped United go three points clear at the top of the Championship and Mitchell-Lawson insisted: "I know I’ve got to be patient because the team is doing so well.
“Things have been a bit stop-start for me since I got here and it’s just good to get my first goal under my belt.
“I’m going to keep working hard and let my football do the talking.
“We have a great bunch of players and everyone has done well. The spirit in the group is brilliant.
“The Championship is such a good league that you just have to keep digging out results.
“We deserve to be top and want to stay there as long as we can.
“It’s not about us looking at league tables, it’s still very early and we’re going to take each game as it comes.
“It’s been a great start to the season for us but we aren’t even talking about promotion this early in the season.”
Mitchell-Lawson’s late cameo helped Ayr over the line after they came up against a stern test from the Lichties.
He added: “There’s results where you simply have to dig in and hope the boys at the top end can produce the goals.
“I was warned all about how hard it was going to Arbroath and you can see how you have to grind it out up there, so it’s a big result.
“It’s been a positive start to the season for us and I have loved my time at the club since I’ve been here.
“Ayr is a beautiful place and everyone at the club has welcomed me since I came in.”
Boss Lee Bullen added: "Jayden's had a stop-start season with injuries and been waiting his chance.
“Now he comes on and puts himself right into my thoughts. That’s the kind of squad we have.
"Our main aim over the summer was to get our recruitment spot on and have the full squad firing on all cylinders and Jayden is good proof of that."
