Ayr United tie down exciting teen prospect Dylan Watret

Teen star Dylan Watret admits he’s in the best place to realise his footballing potential.

The 16-year-old – who has already made his Ayr United first team debut – is being tipped to be the latest big name off the club’s Academy production line.

Right back Watret this week penned a two-and-a-half year professional deal at Somerset Park following his early impact.

He told the Ayrshire Post: “It’s exciting and I’m delighted to get it done.

“I’ve been at Ayr since I was nine and love everything about the setup.

“The manager has been great with me and loves to give feedback on all the youth games.

“That makes you feel a big part of things and gives you confidence.”

Former Bellfield kid, Watret, is the latest United youngster to come through the SFA’s Grange Performance School, following in the footsteps of the likes of Fraser Bryden, Paul Smith and Finn Ecrepont.

He added: “It’s good when you see how those boys have come through and broken into the first team here.

“It gives you belief that if you do well then you’ll get the same chances.”

Watret has already stepped off the bench twice for Ayr’s first team, putting his name firmly on the radar.

Dad Allister said: “Ayr is a family club and for us it’s important to know Dylan feels at home here.

“He’s able to relax in this environment and focus on his football.

“Lee Bullen takes a huge interest in all the youth teams ands he’s made it clear that he will give those boys a chance if they deserve it.

“That’s massive for not just Dylan but all the boys at that level – they can see a real future here.”

United managing director, Graeme Mathie, added: “Dylan’s development has really accelerated in this past year.

“He’s played a number of reserve games against players with hundreds of first team games under their belt and acquitted himself very well.

“And for the manager, being aware of boys like Dylan from that early age is now just part of the fabric of what we do at this club.”
