Ayr United's Finn Ecrepont puts experience first with League Two loan

Finn Ecrepont insists he’s sacrificed a potential promotion party for the sake of his career.

Ayr United’s longest serving player is gaining vital minutes at League Two Stranraer.

Now Ecrepont, who joined the Blues on loan in January, is aiming to come back flying in time for next season.

The 20-year-old told the Ayrshire Post: “I’d broken into the first team here just before Christmas and got some minutes under my belt.

“So I felt the time was right that I needed to get out and play week in, week out.

“It was a tough decision because when the first team is doing well at the top of the Championship, you do want to stay and be part of that.

“But for my career, playing a wee bit more football is important at this stage.

“I was at Albion Rovers a couple of years ago and experienced a similar thing with being in a scrap at the bottom of League Two.

“All of that is good for my development.

“And having been at Stranraer for a few weeks now, I definitely feel we have enough to get through the tough period and win enough points.

“It’s a good chance for me to go and get experience and that’s what I need at this stage.

“It’s a sacrifice I have to make at this point to go and play some games and hopefully come back in the summer raring to go.”
