Ayr United managing director Graeme Mathie elected to serve on SPFL Board

Ayr United managing director, Graeme Mathie, has been elected to serve on the SPFL Board.

Mathie, 39, takes up post following the AGM of the SPFL this morning.

He will serve as one of seven club representatives from across the Scottish game.

Celtic chief executive, Michael Nicholson, is the highest profile appointment with Mathie one of two names representing the Championship.

League boss Neil Doncaster heads up the group, with chairman Murdoch MacLennan and independent, non-executive director Karen McCluskey.

The United MD has also been elected to serve on the Competitions Working Group - a position he held whilst working in the Premiership at Hibernian.

Mathie told the Ayrshire Post: "I’ve been involved on the Competitions Working Group at the SPFL before and I am thankful to the clubs in the Championship for supporting the nomination for me to join the Board as one of two league representatives.

"It’s an exciting time for Scottish football and I’m really looking forward to understanding the opportunities and challenges across the game in this role."

Elected to serve on the 2022/23 SPFL Board were:

• cinch Premiership: Michael Nicholson (Celtic), Ron Gordon (Hibernian), James MacDonald (Ross County)

• cinch Championship: Les Gray (Hamilton Academical), Graeme Mathie (Ayr United)

• cinch League 1 and League 2: Alastair Donald (Forfar Athletic), Alternate director – Paul Hetherington (Airdrieonians)
