Michael Moffat has told how the itch to keep playing has inspired a return to his non-league roots.
The Ayr United legend has today signed on loan with West of Scotland League side Glenafton until the end of the season.
It's a massive coup for the Loch Park side - managed by Moff's old Somerset teammate Ryan Stevenson.
The 37-year-old will continue in his day-to-day role as United's strength and conditioning coach.
But the former Girvan goal machine admits the desire was burning too bright to let his playing days drift away.
He told the Ayrshire Post: "I'm really enjoying my new role at Ayr and the club have been brilliant with me.
"But any footballer will tell you they want to keep playing as long as they can and that's definitely the case for me.
"You want to be contributing on the pitch and I still feel as if I have the ability to do so.
"To be honest, I could drop down to League One or Two and look to prolong my career that way but at this stage of my career it's not about that.
"I feel that by going back to where it all started, I can enjoy my football again and it's the best of both worlds for me."
Moff, part of the centurion club of United goalscorers, is currently in his testimonial year at Somerset Park.
And he praised club chiefs for helping the loan move to come off.
He said: "Graeme Mathie and the Board have been fantastic in helping this to happen - they understand where I'm coming from.
"I've never hidden my desire to keep playing if possible and it's great that we've found a way to make it work for all parties."
Thrilled Glens boss Stevo reckons he's landing the West of Scotland's top marksman with the marquee signing.
He told the Post: "Moff's record speaks for itself - he has performed consistently at a high level for more than a decade and scored more than 100 goals at Ayr.
"For a club like ourselves to be getting someone from the top end of the Scottish Championship speaks volumes about what we're trying to do here.
"Our youngsters will benefit massively from someone of his experience and calibre coming in. It's just a huge signing all round for the club.
"That's us brought in the likes of Moff and a former international in Paul Paton - so we are quietly building a really exciting project here."
