Ayr United kid Fraser Bryden targets more success after first senior goal

Fraser Bryden lapped up his first senior goal in front of the terraces where he used to stand – but wished it had been a winner.

The 17-year-old’s strike, followed by a Markus Fjortoft equaliser, earned Ayr a vital point in their battle against the drop on Saturday.

Bryden, who only signed a pro contract three months ago, was ecstatic at his goal against Inverness - and hopes it’s the first of many.

He claimed: “It feels amazing especially after that first half when we weren’t at it.

“We were second to every ball but we got a reaction from the gaffer at half time and I thought we played brilliantly.

“Inverness were hanging on in the second-half and we were pushing to get the winner.

“I think if the goal had been to put us 2-1 up the celebrations might have been a bit more.

“But I had to go again and try to get the equaliser.

“It’s a good point especially after that first half when we were down 2-0.

“Next week is massive and we need three points against Dunfermline.”

The half-time introduction of Tomi Adeloye and Daire O’Connor transformed Ayr and Bryden reckons they were pivotal.

He said: “Every time Daire gets to the byline he tells me to kid on that I’m going to the front post and hang off.

“I did it, got the first touch and the defender’s gone the opposite way and I got the shot in across the goalie.

“Since joining the squad the week before Christmas it’s been brilliant for me.

“It’s a great team to be in, we just need as many points as possible to stay in the league.

“I’ve started three games but now there are three massive games to go.”
