Ayr United boss Lee Bullen targets special pies with Scottish Cup run

Ayr United boss Lee Bullen is ready to sink his teeth into St Mirren – after warming up with a round of haggis pies on the eve of Scottish Cup Saturday.

Bully took a trip to visit United superfans Gordon McBlain and Stevie Corrigan at their Home Bakery in Ayr today.

And the gaffer proved a huge hit among customers as he tucked into a batch of their famous pies in honour of Rabbie Burns.

Now Bullen is setting his sights on a cup cracker at Somerset tomorrow – and reckons his men are right up for the spicy occasion.

He said: "The boys have reacted really positively to our disappointing result last week.

"It's a great opportunity for us to go up against Premier League opposition and test ourselves.

"We'll be underdogs but we're hoping to cause an upset and we have to go in with a positive mindset and believe we can get a result.

"Nothing is a free hit, I've only been in the door here two weeks and everything for me is still a learning opportunity at this club.

"So tomorrow is an important game as we look to continue that progress and build some momentum."

A crowd of more than 3,000 is expected inside Somerset with a large travelling support set to head down from Paisley.

And Bullen added: "I'm just delighted that fans will be back in the stadium in big numbers.

"It's the return of real football instead of playing in front of 500 people.

"I've had my battles against St Mirren down the years – I remember them pipping us to the title when I was with Dunfermline and going up against the likes of Tommy Turner and Mark Yardley – proper legends of their club.

"They're a great club and I think the manager has done a good job there and it will be a real challenge for us but we'll be ready for it.

"I've been lucky enough to reach two Scottish Cup finals in my time so it would be great to go on another run here."

Bakery co-boss Gordon added: "It was great to welcome Bully down to the shop and he was fantastic in spending time chatting away.

"He's quickly made a big impression with the support and has the backing of us all in leading us on this exciting new chapter.

"A victory tomorrow would be just the ticket and hopefully our pies prove the secret weapon!"

The haggis, neeps and tatties special pies are on sale at The Home Bakery in George Street in the run up to Burns Night on Tuesday.
