Mourners will be cut off from visiting loved ones six days a week for the next four months at Ayr Cemetery as more water ingress works begin.
Families will only be able to visit their relatives' graves on Sundays for at least four months as the extension is set to be fenced off once again.
Council chiefs have confirmed they expect to start more major works on or around Monday, June 13.
They have also indicated that Troon Cemetery water ingress fears won't be tackled until Ayr works are completed.
It means that by the time they are finished, Ayr families will have been put through a year of agony.
It is not known what the programme of works will entail, with many families still fearing loved ones are floating in 6ft of water.
Ayrshire Live previously told how grieving families were desperate to have water removed after giving investigators permission to probe their loved ones' grave.
A shattered relative previously told how their "heart would sink" every time it rains as it was confirmed rainwater was leaking into chambers which, when installed, were supposed to be air and watertight.
We also revealed how council chiefs once feared that up to 100 graves could have issues with water ingress.
A spokesperson for South Ayrshire Council said: "The initial start date for the programme of works at Ayr Cemetery extension will be on or around Monday, June 13.
"It is anticipated that these works will take approximately four months to complete, however this will depend on a number of factors, such as weather conditions.
"Troon Cemetery works will commence once Ayr Cemetery has been completed, and we will be able to provide a definitive date to lair owners for this in due course.
"We have been in contact with the affected lair owners to seek the relevant permissions to proceed with the programme of works.
"Ayr Cemetery extension will be closed Monday to Saturday each week for the duration of the works, but will be open to the public on Sundays.
"We know that this has been an extremely distressing time for families and lair owners, who we have remained in regular contact with, and will continue to do so throughout this process."
