Gardening and horticulture fans are in for a blooming treat this summer as the Ayr & District Flower Show returns in August.
Ayr & District Flower Show will take to Ayr Racecourse on Friday, August 19 and Saturday, August 20 in a welcome return after the committee were forced to axe the last two years’ events due to the pandemic.
And the hotly anticipated show has already been well received with traders applying to get involved just hours after the news was announced.
Irene Yuill, secretary of Ayr & District Flower Show, said: “We are pleased that the show is going ahead.
“The traders are really looking forward to it, hopefully the exhibitors and the public are as well.”
Usual classes for exhibitors will be on the bill, including vegetables, flowers and pot plants, flower arranging, baking and handicrafts.
There will also be a junior section with Lego models, posy of garden flowers, miniature gardens, fruit/vegetable animals and more.
And making its debut this year is a scarecrow class, which was set to be introduced in 2020, with individuals, families or groups encouraged to get their thinking caps on to create a fun free-standing bird-scarer.
Irene said: “You see villages with scarecrow competitions. They have scarecrows in their gardens, and rather than do that we thought we’d try them in the tent.
“We’d put it in for the 2020 show in the handicraft section.
“It’s just something different.
“Groups could enter it, as long as it’s one entry sheet comes in; it could be the Scouts or any organisation.”
There will also be a selection of trade stands where attendees can buy plants, cards, jewellery, lawnmowers and more.
Details for the show are still being finalised with the public encouraged to get the dates in the diary.
Schedules will be sent to everyone who entered the previous three shows as soon as they are printed.
