Newcastle supporters have claimed custody of Ayoze Perez’s brilliant equaliser against Manchester United. Midway through the Red Devils’ Europa League clash against Real Betis, the former Magpies man smashed home a low finish to draw level.
The well-taken strike was Perez’s first goal for Betis since arriving on loan from Leicester City in January. It was the Foxes who forked out £30million to lure the Spaniard away from St James’ Park in 2019.
Five years on Tyneside allowed the forward to develop from a boy to a man, with 48 goals making him the top scorer of the Mike Ashley era. Failure to replicate his Newcastle form at the King Power Stadium resulted in his move back to Spain earlier this year.
Scoring at Old Trafford is one way for Perez to endear himself to his new supporters - a feat he never achieved in black-and-white stripes. Not only that, he almost stunned the Theatre of Dreams by clipping the post shortly before half-time.
