Ayesha Curry notices this small, specific detail whenever she visits a home – it influences how she decorates over the holidays

Ayesha Curry.

When scrolling Instagram for interior design inspiration, you've likely saved shots from Ayesha Curry's home (and you're in good company because we have, too). The 2x New York Times bestselling author, actress, and restaurateur is a style guru who, like us, spends the holidays celebrating with family and friends. And again, like us, she uses this time to take notes on the unique decorating quirks around their homes.

Ahead of the most sociable time on the calendar, Curry partnered with Command Brand to discuss the Christmas decor ideas that are worth getting excited about this year – starting with inspriation she takes from the houses she visits (that she's replicating in her own home).

'[When visiting another home] I definitely would notice the decor. Is there anything that they've added specifically for the holiday season? I'm a details girl, so I'll notice what they're hanging with, what material they've used, the paint on the wall, and things like that because I'm always looking for inspiration,' Curry says in an exclusive interview with H&G. 'It's not from a judgmental place. It's from a place of, like, what can I take that I'm seeing right now and implement it into my own space?'

Next on Curry's agenda? Christmas decor trends – or, more specifically, how this 'trend' label can mean something different to every person (all year round, but especially over the holidays).

'Decorating for Christmas is up to the individual, right? What somebody might consider trendy could be consistent and classic and a staple for somebody else. Leaning into the holidays is the perfect time of year to determine what that is for you and maybe play around and see what feels classic to you,' she says.

Curry spoke to H&G from Command Brand's home, which featured different rooms decorated in ways that tapped into different holiday design trends. The different styles and colors of these rooms emphasized this point further.

'Many of us thought the ‘winter white’ trend would be the one – but this darker Cotswold room [where I am sitting] sets the tone for us. It feels classic to a lot of us. Again, it taps into the beauty of having Command Brand products. Say you’ve put the whole room together, and you decide it’s not what you want – you can pull it all down in seconds and start over and create whatever you want. The world is truly your oyster with these products.'

'Everybody has different styles they want to lean into, and maybe sometimes there's a little apprehension about doing it because it's, you can't remove it once it’s done – but that’s not the case with this. It’s the perfect time to play around,' Curry says.

With this in mind, we're reminded that Christmas is the time to build on the color palettes and furnishings we love all year round – but with a fun twist. 'I have lots of chocolate and brown hues [at home], and I like bringing together all of those decor elements and then playing with texture within that color scheme.'

Whether you opt for similar chocolate paint and furniture hues or have a contrasting style to Curry's home – we've found some festive decor that will translate to every home.
