With the introduction of widespread work-from-home policies, we're all renegotiating how we use our homes. Home offices have become all the more necessary, but we often fail to consider the diversity of what a 'home office' can look like. For Ayesha and Stephen Curry, the ideal home office is in the kitchen.
Ayesha took to Instagram to share the latest Cabernet Sauvignon from her wine brand, Domaine Curry Wine, with her wooden kitchen. Behind her, we were quick to spot an inset marble accent in the back of the space. On the table in the footage, there is a laptop and space for charging cords, creating the perfect home office.
Though the space is small or could be used for alternative purposes (like a coffee bar), the presence of the laptop demonstrates the versatility of an inset like this. While it serves as an aesthetically pleasing marble kitchen accent to contrast with the rest of the wood on the ceiling and the cabinets, it also serves several significant functions.
Experts say the look is a huge emerging interior design trend. 'As we're in our homes more post-pandemic, each space needs to serve more functions,' says Jennifer Ebert, digital editor at Homes & Gardens. 'Since it's one of the primary social spaces in a home, the kitchen is of utmost importance. For this reason, I can absolutely see marble insets like Stephen and Ayesha Curry's becoming more popular.'
She continues, 'First of all, they are a cost-effective way to add a touch of marble to a wood kitchen. Rather than adding an entire marble backsplash or countertop, an inset like this requires a much smaller slab.'
'It can be used for different purposes over the lifetime of your kitchen. If you're a coffee or tea drinker, it's the perfect placement for a drinks station. If you entertain a lot, it's a great spot for a home bar. If your family has children, it can be a great place for the family computer. If you work from home, it can function as a home office. No matter the need, a marble inset can fill that space.'
