A rare experience was had by many excited Edinburgh trainspotters on Friday, as the iconic Royal Scotsman pulled into the capital's Waverley railway station.
The distinctive train departs from the capital during its famous tours of the nation, all of which cost a pretty penny to be on. The locomotive was launched in 1985, and was originally composed of sleeping cars and three dining carriages.

One passer-by spotted the luxury train while visiting Edinburgh, and snapped a photo of the carriages sitting in the railway station.
Speaking to Edinburgh Live, the eagle-eyed trainspotter said: "It was a very long train, and there was no passengers on it at that particular time, but even still there was a lot of people waiting to get on - and there was a piper.

"The piper was piping the train in but the North Berwick train came in before that departed, so I mean, obviously everyone was staring at it, there was a lot of trainspotters there and all of that.
"I wish I was on it! I just thought wow, what a fantastic looking train."
The Royal Scotsman departs from Edinburgh on a variety of tours of Scotland, starting from a whopping £4,000 per cabin.
