Perthshire has two contenders at the first ever Great British Wedding Awards (GBWA) to be held in Birmingham next week.
George Urquhart, boss of 3G Catering Services UK only recently won at the Scottish Food Awards, taking the prize for wedding caterer of the year 2022, having won the national title previously in 2018.
Now his business 3G Catering Services UK, operating from kitchens in Aberuthven and an office in Gillies of Perth, is flying the flag not only for city and the wider region, but as the only catering business from Scotland shortlisted at the GBWA.
As the UK comes out of the pandemic, the outlook for weddings which was at an all-time low, is looking brighter with a flurry of couples getting hitched now the delays and restrictions have finally gone.
The new era has sparked event organisers Creative Oceanic to combine all four parts of the UK in one giant awards night, with winners of the inaugural GBWA announced at a dinner in Birmingham on Thursday, December 8.
A GBWA spokesperson said: “We hope to provide a platform to thank and appreciate the work of the professionals who have pushed the boundaries in a difficult time and had the continuous support of their customers.”
The early stages of the competition drew an “overwhelming response” from the public and a “phenomenal” number of nominations from happy clients were received.
3G Catering Services UK -www.3gcatering.co.uk - is Scotland’s only finalist in the prestigious Caterer of the Year category.
“I’m really excited to be going to the Great British Wedding Awards next Thursday,” said George.
“Myself and the head chef go to Birmingham on the Thursday, travel back by air on the Friday because, we’ve only got a wedding on the Saturday - it never stops!”
“Sometimes I have to pinch myself this is happening. From being in business just seven and a half years, to getting to be a finalist in an event of this size, well it is just sublime.
“The team was on a high after our success at the Scottish Food Awards in September, so this is just great to have us shortlisted in the first year that the Great British Wedding Awards have run.
“My heart swells with pride to be the only business from Scotland in the category of caterer of the year. It is an amazing achievement for my small family-run business. I could not be happier with the huge honour of representing not just Perth and Perthshire but also Scotland.”
Also hoping to come home smiling with a GBWA win is Bachilton Barn in Perth, a finalist in the Venue of the Year category.
The two Big County hopefuls have done really well for being singled out to be contenders in their categories on what is a massively London and South East England-heavy shortlist.
