A North Shields school has said 'Auf Wiedersehen' to an award-winning teacher of modern languages when the school year came to an end.
Foreign language teacher Meryl Wakeman rounded off a three-decade teaching career by winning a Lifetime Achievement Award before she retired.
Meryl Wakeman taught German at Sir Thomas More Catholic High School in North Shields for almost 30 years and was nominated for the prestigious award by curriculum leader for Modern Foreign Language Lisa Fisher, who said: “Meryl has been a long-standing member of staff at Sir Thomas More, who has contributed so much to the Modern Foreign Language Department.
