Award ceremony looking for NHS Ayrshire & Arran workers who go above and beyond

Members of the public are being urged to nominate their NHS Ayrshire & Arran healthcare heroes for a special award.

NHS Ayrshire & Arran’s Ayrshire Achieves award scheme is back for 2023 - and now the public have the opportunity to get involved.

Lesley Bowie, chair at Ayrshire & Arran NHS Board, said: “As a result of the Covid-19 pandemic, it has been almost four years since we were able to host the award scheme.

“Now that we can get together in a shared space it will be fantastic to recognise and celebrate the many wonderful people, projects and plans that represent the purpose, values and commitments of our organisation.

“If you know someone working in the NHS or with our health and social care partnerships across East, North and South Ayrshire, who has gone the extra mile to help you, why not nominate them?”

The award scheme is open to nominations, with the ceremony taking place on June 1.

There are seven categories to choose from:

* Caring for people: This award recognises staff who've provided patients and their families with exceptional care, compassion, dignity and respect. This may include nursing, midwifery, allied health professional, GP and care home colleagues.

* Caring for each other: This award is for an individual or team who has demonstrated attention to health and wellbeing, psychological safety, compassion and care for others in how they work, with examples of how they have done this and the impacts.

* Shining stars: This award is for an individual, team or volunteer who stands out in some way in terms of their contribution and achievement, and/or going the extra mile.

* Thinking out of the box: This award is for an individual or team who has done something new or different; delivered innovation, reform, a surprising or left field solution; or found solutions ‘against all the odds.’

* Collaboration and working together: This award is for a team who has demonstrated exceptional teamworking, collaboration, working across boundaries and connectedness.

* Making a difference with digital: This award is for an individual or team who has been thinking and/or doing things differently using digital improvements, innovations, new approaches and ideas.

* Behind the scenes: This award is for an individual, team or volunteer without whom something couldn’t happen, yet who may not be visible or foreground in the work that they do.

Claire Burden, chief executive at NHS Ayrshire & Arran, added: “Every day we hear examples of our dedicated staff going the extra mile. They don’t do this in anticipation of awards, it is because they are committed to providing safe and high-quality care in all that they do. This is an opportunity for all of us, and members of the public to say, ‘You left an impression on me, and thank you!’

“If you know of someone who deserves to be recognised, why not nominate them for an award?”
